We offer three exceptional ranges of bearings for this size: HSC ceramic, AITA ceramic and NTN steel bearings.

Assembled in Australia, both HSC and AITA ceramic bearing ranges feature ABEC 7 hardened steel bearing races combined with Si3N4 Grade 3 ceramic bearing balls, ensuring unmatched precision, durability, and performance.

These bearings are manufactured to the highest industry standards, delivering exceptional smoothness and reliability for your bike wheels.

With the in-house developed ceramic grease and precision-engineered bearing seals, these bearings offer ultra-smooth performance along with exceptional water and dust resistance.

Rigorously tested on road, gravel, and MTB terrains, they are built to excel in all conditions.

NTN is a 100-year-old bearing manufacturer in Japan, still making their bearings in Japan. The build and quality are second to none in steel bearing area. With years of testing in cycling, their non-contact seal LLB range has been proven to suit cycling the best. It is not the cheapest steel bearing, but it is truly worth the investment if you are a commuter or casual rider. They are smooth and can last a long time, saving you from frequent visits to your bike store for replacements.

  • 100% Australian-owned

  • Assembled in Melbourne

  • Affordable, high-performance ceramic bearings with their own blended grease.

  • Trusted locally for 20+ years with excellent support.

  • Hold the Australian single-track bike speed record (by MHP at 116.39 km/h).

HSC Ceramics is a 100% Australian-owned ceramic bearing brand, rooted in the 1990s.

They source their parts from Japan, Germany, and China and make a very unique blended grease for their own ceramic bearings. Their bearings are assembled in the western part of Melbourne and have been used and loved by local cyclists for over 20 years.

Buying their brand bearings offers peace of mind. If you have any questions, concerns, or problems, they are always available to help. This is a brand that offers Aussie riders a trustworthy local customer care experience, making your journey happier and hassle-free.

HSC ceramic bearings are reasonably and affordably priced for ceramic bearings and are just as good as other big international brands. Performance-wise, they can definitely beat other big brands, but most importantly, when you need assistance, you can speak to someone who knows what they are doing.

HSC supports the top Australian university, Monash University Monash Human Power (MHP) team, which broke the Australian men’s single-track bike record of 116.39 km/h, a speed that would get you a fine on an Australian freeway. This achievement makes their team hold the fastest and second-fastest Australian bicyclists titles as of 15th September 2023.

AITA CERAMIC

Highlights:

  • Australian brand supporting Paralympians since 2015.

  • Contributed to Olympic medals, national and Oceania records.

  • Collaborates with the Australian Institute of Sport on innovations.

  • Extensive bearing range and competitive pricing.

AITA Ceramic stands for Australia International Ceramic, another true Australian brand of ceramic bearings that has supported Australian Paralympian teams since 2015.

They helped win two gold and one bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. AITA has also contributed to three Australian National Records and two Oceania Records and has supported the Australian team at multiple Paralympic Games and Para Athletic World Championships.

The unique part of this brand is that they have made nearly every bottom bracket type you may find in the cycling industry.

They also work very closely with the Australian Institute of Sport to develop the next generation of wheels for the Australian team.

Compared to the HSC brand, AITA can be a bit more expensive, but considering their high profile and in comparison with other international brands, the price is still very competitive.

And, like HSC, they are locally based in Australia, so support is always easily reachable.

  • HSC Ceramic Bearing Specifications

    • Grade 3, Si3N4 ceramic balls (Made in Japan): Surpass steel balls in roundness by a factor of 8 and offer a remarkable 4 times smoother performance.
    • ABEC 7 alloy steel races: Engineered to provide high precision and stability for a superior riding experience.
    • Pre-lubricated with HSC Ceramic Grease and sealed (Made in Australia): Our specially formulated grease ensures minimal resistance, maximizing efficiency and speed.
    • C3 clearance: Play a crucial role in ensuring optimal performance and longevity of bearings. It determines the level of tightness when the bearing is installed in the BB or hub shell, as well as the snug fit of the axle into the inner race. Choosing C3 clearance provides a safer option, as it allows for the necessary pre-load on races commonly found in BBs and hubs. This helps prevent issues such as tight and notchy operations, ensuring a smoother and more reliable experience.
    • Assembled and hand-checked in Australia: Every bearing is meticulously crafted and inspected by our team to ensure top-notch quality.
  • AITA Ceramic Bearing Specifications

    • ABEC7 high chrome vacuum degassed bearing steel races with quenching and tempering hardening.
    • Ultra-smooth polished bearing raceway.
    • Low-friction ceramic grease minimizes friction and increases bearing life.
    • Light-contact rubber seals keep dirt and moisture out.
    • Grade 3 Si3N4 ceramic bearing balls (Made in Japan): Surpass steel balls in roundness by a factor of 8 and offer a remarkable 4 times smoother performance. Delivering exceptional smoothness and reduced friction for optimal performance.

    • Non-contact seals (LLB): reduce friction and enhance efficiency, allowing for improved speed and control in cycling.
    • LLB vs LLU Seal: The LLB seal is a non-contact type seal used in NTN bearings. It features very low torque and excellent dust-proofing. Its high-speed capacity is comparable to open-type seals, delivering minimal friction in wheel hubs. A light, waterproof grease is applied to enhance its waterproofing capabilities, making it ideal for cycling.

On the other hand, the LLU seal is a contact type, which results in medium torque during bearing rotation. While it offers good dust and waterproofing features, its performance is limited by the contact nature of the seals. LLU seals are typically used in industrial applications where the working environment is more demanding.

For smooth, low-friction, high-performance cycling on both road and gravel, the LLB seal is the ideal option.
