Choose the Right Pulley Wheel for Your MTB
Pulley Wheel Material
Delrin: Durable, lightweight, and quiet. A practical and affordable option for reliable everyday MTB performance.
Alloy: Strong and long-lasting, with a slightly higher operating noise than Delrin. The alloy construction also provides a sleek and premium appearance.
Pulley Tooth Count
11T – 42 mm diameter: The most versatile option and compatible with most short-, medium-, and long-cage systems.
12T – 46 mm diameter: A larger pulley wheel designed for medium- and long-cage systems. It offers smooth chain movement and potential efficiency benefits.
13T – 51 mm diameter: Suitable for medium- and long-cage systems. The larger diameter can provide smoother chain articulation and potential efficiency benefits.
Larger pulley wheels can offer efficiency and smoothness benefits, but compatibility with the derailleur cage is essential.
Pulley Tooth Profiles
Narrow-Wide Tooth Profile: The narrow-wide profile uses 2.2 mm narrow teeth and 3.7 mm wide teeth to match the corresponding narrow and wide sections of the chain. This provides strong chain engagement and retention, while allowing a small amount of lateral movement to accommodate gear shifting.
This profile is designed for compatible wide/narrow chains and is not suitable for narrow-width chains.
Narrow Tooth Profile: This profile uses a consistent 1.80-2.2 mm tooth width and is compatible with a wider range of chain types. It provides smooth chain engagement, easy shifting, and low friction while allowing greater lateral movement of the chain during gear changes.
