Whether you're maintaining your wheelset or upgrading to ceramic bearings, knowing the correct bearing sizes for your Zipp Cognition hubs is essential. However, it is quite confusing with Cognition hubs, as there are V1 and V2, Gen 1 and Gen 2, Rim Brake or Disc brake, and even more details in magnetic clutch or Sylomer clutch. Here, we try to get it all clear so that you can find out which bearing is for your cognition hub.

Understanding the Zipp Cognition Hub Type
Zipp has released multiple ranges of their Cognition hubs. The main versions include:
Cognition V1 Rim Brake
Gen 1 (2015–2019) – Magnetic Clutch
Gen 2 (2019–2021) – Magnetic Clutch
Cognition V1 Disc Brake (2017–2021) – Magnetic Clutch
Cognition V2 Rim Brake (2021 onwards) – Sylomer Clutch
Cognition V2 Disc Brake (2021 onwards) – Sylomer Clutch
Zipp Cognition Hub Bearing Type
Cognition V1 Rim Brake Hubs
Gen 1 (2015–2019) – Magnetic Clutch:
Front Hub: 2 × 6803 bearings
Rear Hub:
Drive Side: 1 × 6804 bearing
Non-Drive Side: 1 × 6903 bearing
Freehub Body: 2 × 6803 bearings
Gen 2 (2019–2021) – Magnetic Clutch:
Front Hub: 2 × 6803 bearings
Rear Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Freehub Body: 2 × 6803 bearings
Tip: Gen 2 hubs start with a serial number equal to or greater than "21P81803697", while Gen 1 is less than that number.
Cognition V1 Disc Brake Hubs (2017–2021) – Magnetic Clutch
Front Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Rear Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Freehub Body: 2 × 6803 bearings
Cognition V2 Rim Brake Hubs (2021–Present) – Sylomer Clutch
Front Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Rear Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Freehub Body: 2 × 6803 bearings
Cognition V2 Disc Brake Hubs (2021–Present) – Sylomer Clutch
Front Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Rear Hub: 2 × 6903 bearings
Freehub Body: 2 × 6803 bearings
Note: V2 hubs maintain the same bearing configuration as V1 Disc hubs, making upgrades or replacements straightforward.
Bearing Size Reference
6803: 17mm ID x 26mm OD x 5mm width
6903: 17mm ID x 30mm OD x 7mm width
6804: 20mm ID x 32mm OD x 7mm width
Make it easier
After looking everything up, I hope this helps clarify things, though I admit it can still be a bit confusing when figuring out exactly what you need for your hub!
If you have a Cognition Disc Brake Hub, there’s no need to worry about whether it's V1, V2, magnetic, or Sylomer. All Disc Brake versions use the same bearings.
You’ll need the following:
Wheel Set 16 – NTN Japan-made steel bearings Zipp Wheel Hub Replacement Bearing Set – NTN
Or choose from our ceramic bearing range: Select 4x 6903 + 2x 6803 Ceramic Bearings
If you have a Cognition Rim Brake Hub, to determine the correct bearings. Here's how to tell:
